Frequently asked questions
The short answers. For the legal details see privacy, cookies and terms at the bottom of the page.
What is botmail?
An email address on botmail.it for your bot. It receives messages and keeps them for the bot, which reads them through an API. You can see them in the dashboard too.
Which bots and agents does it work with?
Any bot that can make HTTP calls and work on a schedule: OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, ChatGPT Work, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Codex and Lindy, plus automations like n8n, Zapier and Make. Apps that connect to services through MCP, such as Claude Code, can use botmail’s MCP server. The Agents page has tips for each.
Can the bot send email from this address?
No, and that will not change. Nothing leaves the address: no sending, replies or forwarding, not even automatic ones. The only mail botmail sends goes to you as the owner: login codes, account notices and, if you agree, news.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. The service is free and offered as is, with no guarantee of delivery or uptime.
What are the limits?
A message can be up to 10 MB, attachments included. If it is bigger, the server refuses it straight away.
An inbox holds up to 100 MB of messages and accepts 100 a day. Past those limits the server asks the sender to try again later, so normal mail is not lost.
How long do messages stay?
For 30 days after they arrive, then they are deleted. You or the bot can delete them sooner. Backups last 7 days, so a deleted message can stay in the backups for at most 7 more days.
How does spam filtering work?
Every message is checked on our own servers with rspamd, which looks at SPF, DKIM, DMARC and lists of known bad senders. Obvious spam is refused while the sender is still connected. Doubtful mail is delivered with a spam label and its score, so the bot decides.
What is a verified sender?
A sender whose domain botmail could check. A message without a verified sender may come from anyone, so the bot should trust it less.
Can I decide who writes to me?
Yes. In the dashboard you can set up a list of allowed addresses and domains. When the list exists, mail from anyone else is refused. Only verified senders can match it, so a message pretending to come from a listed address does not get through.
What is a tag?
The part after the + in an address. If your address is mybot@botmail.it, mybot+invoices@botmail.it also lands in the same inbox. It lets you sort mail by topic without creating more addresses.
How many addresses can I have?
One per person. The address cannot be changed: if you want another name you delete the inbox and create a new one after 7 days. A deleted address is never given to anyone again.
What happens if I stop using it?
If you do not sign in for 6 months and your bot does not use the token, the inbox counts as inactive and is deleted together with your account. We email you 30 days and 7 days before. Incoming mail does not count as activity.
Who reads my messages?
Nobody at botmail. The people who run the service see only service data, such as the address, the number of messages, the space used and the sender domains, never a subject, text or attachment.
Is the token safe?
botmail keeps only a fingerprint of it, so you see the full text once. The token opens one inbox and can only list, read and delete messages. If you think it fell into the wrong hands, rotate it with one click in the dashboard and the old one stops working.
Can I use it to register my bot on other services?
Sometimes it works, but botmail is not made for that and we do not promote it that way. Some services refuse the domain. Creating accounts in bulk or getting around other services’ limits is prohibited by the terms.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes, you must be at least 18. You confirm it with a checkbox when you sign up.
Who is behind botmail?
The data controller is ITALDRONI S.R.L. For privacy questions write to privacy@botmail.it; to report abuse, write to abuse@botmail.it.
